Black Lives Matter vs. Gangs of America
The Black Lives Matter movement has become a rousing success so far as the entire globe has joined in on the protest and changes are already occurring in Minnesota, New York City, and even the White House joining in on attempts to make drastic changes. The donation numbers have been impressive, death count has remained low despite the best efforts of the cops and white supremacists, and for every story about looting there are dozens of examples of the protests committing good deeds from cleaning up to defending businesses (and even police) from potential violence. This is easily the largest civil rights movement in the history of the United States as thanks to social media, a better-organized system, and much stronger economic support from those in favor the cause, we have allowed protests to successfully occur in EVERY state, even the far reaches of Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, and Puerto Rico.
Now, there is much work to be done in all types of fields so the protests definitely won’t be stopping anytime soon. There is still a plethora of justice that has to be dished out as we still don’t have the murderers of Tamir Rice, Brionna Taylor, among MANY others, arrested and charged. But what should be an obvious battle to support, what should become an obvious belief to stand behind, has nonetheless still been met with resistance. The main reason is simple: Black Lives Matter and the protestors are battling the two biggest gangs currently running the United States right now: the Police Force and the Republican Party.
After all:
Why were the armed protestors demanding to re-open the economy met with virtually zero police resistance, while peaceful protestors nationwide have been met with tear gas, pepper spray, beatings, arrests, and even death?
Why is it that the armed protestors defying the stay-at-home and social distancing orders met with approval from Donald Trump while curfews started emerging everywhere once the cities got hold of the fact that the protests were not going to stop after a couple days?
Why is there so much more focus on the looters among the millions of peaceful protestors and people seeking change, but these same critics don’t focus on the obviously bad police causing chaos throughout the past few weeks?
Why are the First Amendment rights being allowed with the armed protestors trying to re-open in the midst of a pandemic while those same rights aren’t being respected when the Black Lives Matter groups are voicing their discontent?
Why were journalists, protestors, and unarmed civilians being quickly arrested left and right while barely any of the armed, violent, and defiant Open The Barbershop protestors suffered the same fate and while it took forever and a half to actually arrest the other cops involved in George Floyd’s murder?
Why did Donald Trump threaten the military and National Guard on protestors as means to “control the situation” when people protesting during pandemic-infused stay-at-home orders were practically treated as heroes?
Why were politicians that defied stay-at-home orders praised while politicians like Mitt Romney marching for Black Lives Matter are being shunned by the same folks?
Because those two gangs, the Modern-Day Republicans and the Police Force are losing power, aren’t happy about it, and have pretty much decided to hold hands and battle the rising wave of protests together.
We can start with the police. They are a legalized gang, don’t get it twisted. They have their own code, essentially their own language, they back each other up no matter how bad the behavior gets, and are supported by financial donations from cities, states, and federal grants. With nothing to check their power, the cops can operate like a lawless gang behaving above the law and with strong police unions backing them up whenever things go south. Look at how the entire department resigned in Buffalo after those two cops that assaulted the elderly protestor lost their jobs and got charged with second-degree assault. Instead of condemning what was a clear case of unwarranted abuse, they decided to band together in solidarity. This is gang mentality, thick and through.
Historically, the police have existed to keep Black Americans down. This is why police were involved or complacent with essentially every single major town-destroying mob in the Jim Crow Era, with the Black Wall Street massacre being the outrageously biggest example. This is why Black Americans make up only about 15% of the population but over 70% of the population in jail or prison. This biased look towards Black Americans has been passed down from generation to generation, as the statistics involving arrests, violence, killings, and even jaywalking skews against Black Americans.
This unchecked mistreatment against Black Americans pays the bills, puts food on the table, and maintains the power of the police force on all Americans---when truthfully the group that stands the most to win in White Americans and the group that stands the most to lose are the minorities like Black and Brown Americans. With a mere few weeks of training, you get the gang memorabilia, you get your weaponry, and you get the permission to enforce the law while behaving above it, and whether inadvertently or intentionally maintaining the status quo between White Americans and Minority Americans.
But now all this power built up upon decades of acceptance from American society is suddenly being challenged. All of a sudden this movement to strip some of their power, some of their money, some of their advantages is a real possibility. And of course, we are seeing their reaction nationwide: an upheaval of violence against the peaceful, against the unarmed, against those simply begging and demanding changes. Despite the obviously awful record, the police force cannot and will not accept anything that cuts into their power. Despite the overwhelming evidence, this gang is geared up as if they are going to war against protestors armed with…water bottles, signs, snacks, and masks. Notice that ALL Americans are now shocked and appaulled by the treatment that usually had been reserved only for Black Americans—-and this is because they are supporting said cause of helping Black Americans achieve equality.
However this isn’t the only gang operating with angry impunity. We also have the Republican Party behaving like an angry gang realizing that their power is dwindling, and just might start turning on their master in the coming weeks and months. And not because Donald Trump is the worst president we’ve ever had, but because having him around is no longer an advantage but a toxin in their system of usual lawlessness within the White House and the political system. And by the way, I am referring to the politicians, not necessarily the voters drinking the bitter competitive tea. What started with the Reagan Administration reached fever pitch in the 2008 election after Barack Obama was elected and those within the White House were determined to make him a one-term president even before Obama started his term.
The Republican Party treats elections like a team sport, in which no matter what you have to root for your own—whether its inexperienced idiots like Trump or white supremacists like Steve King. Democrats are more likely to suffer from internal conflicts because of differing opinions (see: 2008’s Obama Dems vs. Hillary Dems, 2019’s The Squad and Bernie Sanders vs. The Long-Running Democrats), but Republicans nowadays tends to collectively always shift what is more popular amongst their supporters regardless of their beliefs and aspirations, even if it means dipping into the deep end and supporting a White Supremacist administration like what we’ve seen with the Trump administration and Trump’s legions of racist friends.
This is why the Republican Party has mostly stayed away from Defunding the Police, have avoided saying Black Lives Matter, has remained quiet about the situation at the border, have not declared the KKK or Proud Boys a terrorist organization and have even remained mum on some of their recent actions, have avoided the concept of better health care seen in established nations worldwide, and have even avoided gun control after a mass shooting that killed many children in a quiet community. Deciding to agree with the other side is seen as potential weakness, seen as potentially shifting away from their firm strong beliefs concerning “law and order”, “gun control,” and “bootstrap mentality.” Being on the right side of history while defying their usual stances is impossible, its not acceptable within this gang of politicians. This is why they’ve worked double overtime to justify Donald Trump’s attempts to rule like a dictator.
Rand Paul is campaigning against an anti-lynching bill, which is beyond unacceptable and irredeemable. Donald Trump has declared he will never accept socialism even though he has actually committed acts of strong socialism like giving taxpayer money to struggling farmers and bailing out corporations during the pandemic to maintain the strong economy imagery. Republicans like Mitch McConnell will defy rules like holding hearings for a new justice just because they aren’t coming from his party, with 2016’s Merrick Garland controversy forever staining his legacy. But a man like McConnell doesn’t care, because his gang of Republicans keep him rich with donations from large corporations and secret billionaires to keep behaving in this manner. Even if their actions don’t match their words, the morals and beliefs of the Republican Party are verbally repeated time and time again to hammer this unchangeable assortment of key stances.
So now with the biggest challenge to their current reign of the White House, they have decided to maintain silent as justice demands are growing louder and louder. Instead of criticizing police, they are criticizing looters. Instead of embracing the protestors, the Republicans are doubling down on their storyline about antifa and “foreign powers” polluting the protests. Instead of criticizing the police behavior, they are maintaining focus on the “defund the police” idea as they are inaccurately claiming that the other side, the Democrats, want to remove all the police from the streets. And instead of attempts to open a dialogue about police brutality, we see efforts to get the military involve, as well as once again open investigations to Joe Biden *rolls eyes*.
This has become Black Lives Matter versus two gangs that are struggling to accept their losing of control and power. This is why the cops are behaving in wild manners, and this is why the Republican Party have maintained their support for an obviously terrible leader. Look at what happened at Republicans like John McCain and especially Mitt Romney for not standing in line and maintaining support for their current representative. This is gang mentality, you’re with us or against us.
This is why fruitful or a proper dialogue cannot happen in this administration and the current crop of Republicans in the White House, their gang-like tactics this century has prevented a middle ground approach to any subject. This is how their base has shifted further right towards extreme fascist territory, an unwillingness to meet across the aisle. Black Lives Matter should have a 101% approval rate, for the current and historical evidence is as clear as day. But…there are still those on the Republican side not willing to embrace.
Black Lives Matter and its growing protest around the world has a lot of work to do unfortunately, but changes have started, and with enough consistency we can grow towards a better future and hopefully a future that involves the removal of power from the legal gangs infiltrating and corrupting the United States. The more threatened a gang, the more they will overreact. After seeing the recent behavior of the Trump administration and the police, its obvious their current reign of legalized terror is approaching its end.
Once again, Black Lives Matter.
