Letter to Scottsdale, Arizona
Dear Whoever in Scottsdale Reads This:
Name is Milton E. Malespin, I hail from Central Florida. Guess what, I get to spend my day off writing this angry letter, because Black Lives Matter and because it is time for politicians to become publicly ridiculed and criticized immensely whenever they reveal their racism, and a politician that represents YOUR city is quite possibly one of the scummiest men I’ve seen in 2020. And that’s a hell of an honor considering that the country is being run by Donald Trump. But we no longer should tolerate an OUNCE of racism from anyone representing any town, city, state, whatever.
A city councilman representing YOUR city of Scottsdale Arizona held a no-mask rally the other day. That part is already ridiculous considering the dire threat of the pandemic, and considering that this extremely rich country can’t seem to figure out how to contain the virus even though smaller, poorer, and less-organized countries have managed to succeed. So that part is already ridiculous, as this mask-free rally goes against science, goes against decency, and goes against trying to improve this already crappy year and putting the worst outbreak in a century behind us. So apparently Guy Phillips doesn’t believe in reality; having a councilman that doesn’t even notice the truth is quite dangerous if you ask me. Must not be a coincidence that your state is struggling to contain the pandemic as we speak.
But mocking George Floyd?
Are.
You.
Kidding.
Me?
Scottsdale, let’s be honest, the history of your state is already bad in terms of racism and in terms of its treatment towards minorities. Remember when you lost the Super Bowl because you refused to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a holiday? Yea, that was quite terrible. Remember that time that immigrants were blamed for the breakout of wildfires a few years ago? Also an ugly look. And this is not counting the dozens of times Arizona has made the news because of anti-Mexican behaviors and actions. Even lately, the rise in Covid cases were being blamed (inaccurately) on Mexican immigrants.
Although you were not involved with those specific incidents, the racism still lingers in this state. Arizona has a history of mistreating Black Americans and Mexican Americans, as well as refugees and immigrants. It is the year 2020, and we should be better than this. Even though you were not involved with the actions and terrible words of Guy Phillips, it is time for each of you, all of you, to make a statement condemning his mockery of a man who was RECENTLY MURDERED IN FRONT OF CAMERAS.
George Floyd was murdered in front of cameras. And HIS murder was a direct imitation of the murder of Eric Garner in New York City a few years ago. They both said they could not breathe, they both pleaded for their lives, and they nonetheless had their time in this world cut short. They never got their day in court, they never got to go to jail, because the racist police decided to become juries, judges, and executioners over petty crimes, and because unfortunately the system of policing does not view Black America fairly in the least bit.
It breaks my heart to this day knowing George Floyd pleaded for the life of his mother as his final moments were fleeting. He knew he was going to die, which is quite possibly the worst way to go. I should not have to explain to you the depth of this tragedy, for Black Lives Matter has become stronger and stronger with each passing day. And now the next target is placed on you, Scottsdale Arizona, as this pathetic, worthless, shitty, useless, empty, unsympathetic human being decided to quote George Floyd’s dying words in a mocking manner while displaying his disdain for masks.
I’d reach Guy Phillips personally, but there’s no way I could exchange words with him through calling or e-mailing without becoming a jumble of profanity and insults and curses to him and everyone that supports him. So I am writing to you, all of you, many of you, within the city of Scottsdale to make this right and condemn his actions publicly and loudly. This is the United States of America, and there should be ZERO tolerance for the asinine behavior of Guy Phillips. If you find no issues with what he said and how he behaved, you are just as lowly and pathetic as he is.
I am not requesting that the city council of Scottsdale denounce his behavior, I am demanding it. He deserves to be publicly ripped apart, he deserves severe punishment, he deserves to lose his job. No person holding a title of representing people should have such a job if they don’t view everyone as people. Mocking the words of a man who passed away at the hands of police at such a young age is downright disgusting. I don’t care for his apology, because its not enough. His true colors popped up during an anti-mask rally, which had Trump supporters, Confederate flags, and it bears repeating, A CITY REPRESENTATIVE MOCKING THE DEATHS OF UNARMED INNOCENT BLACK MEN.
He wore a mask to an anti-mask rally with the sole purpose of using those words. Let that shit sink in.
Fix this. Now. I am so tired of having to reach out to so many places and demand justice for all the atrocities happening from the police, from the politicians, from the hate groups that have started barking their racism louder now that one of their own is president. I am tired of having to call out so many people for their ridiculousness and inability to grow and their inability to be sympathetic human beings.
I am tired of shitty politicians like Guy Phillips. So I demand that you all help improve this country by wiping out all ugly specks of racism from politics and from having higher positions. Start with Guy Phillips, fire him, burn the records. He deserves the lowest job imaginable for his behavior the other day. I mean it, firing him is the only action I will accept. At the very very least, publicly display your disgust for what he said and what he did. Toss out the garbage. Otherwise, you are all just being complacent.
Sincerely,
Milton E. Malespin
P.S. This letter is also online for everyone else to read. Clock is ticking. #BlackLivesMatter.
