Political Belly of the Beast: The Dem's Upcoming Senate Throwdown (and why Biden should show up)
Alright, so more than likely Donald Trump is going to be impeached, and the impeachment will move to the Senate where it doesn’t become a simple hearing and debate but a full out court case. The Republicans have the field here, they have the advantage, and they will definitely pull out the stops to make this part a speedy trial.
They don’t see the crimes, they don’t see the corruption, and since the Republican Party has always been notoriously Party-Over-Country to keep as much power as possible (Merrick Garland), they are definitely going to keep Donald Trump as president. Even if Trump is splitting the party across the country, even if he has brutally insulted the families of certain politicians (Ted Cruz), and even though back in 2015-early 2016 the Red Team was extremely critical and hesitant of him (Turtle Mitch and Lindsey Graham), the Republicans will stand by their man. This is expected, this was anticipated, and the Democrats are fully aware they have next to no shot.
Unless they go full Wu-Tang and bring the mothe#*%(U#*%*@ ruckus.
Doing nothing when the whistleblower first filed his/her complaints in their eyes would mean that they are allowing for Trump to continue doing what he is doing. The man is profiting off of his presidency (whether or not you are okay with this), has used his moment as most important man in the nation to increase value of his properties as well as enhance the fortunes of his family, his friends, and his closest allies. Actions being taken here are unprecedented, and that’s why Trump has been able to bounce off the legal lines with minimal resistance----also helps his party pretty much had full control. Even though this power has diminished with last year’s midterm elections, it’s still there and the Senate and Justice Department are the top examples. Even with scandals bouncing around left and right along with lawsuits and daily controversies, Trump has been able to stay ahead for a variety of reasons with the Republican Party making a deal with the Devil and keeping in line.
But I’m not here to mainly discuss Donald Trump being the worst president since Andrew Johnson, I’m here to focus on the Democrats.
The Blue Team is likely going to approach all this with the same speed and persistent emphasis on their argument. I mean it worked the first time, and quite swiftly, right? But this is the Senate, Land of the Red, and the Republicans are out for blood. They want Hunter Biden to testify, they want Joe Biden to testify, Adam Schiff to testify, and lastly of course they also want the whistleblower. They are going to try to keep their amount of witnesses to a minimum to guarantee this speedy trial---but they do want to challenge the Bidens along the way.
And you know what? Give it to them. Give them everything. But also go out there truly swinging.
The Democrats have to play absolute hardball and bring out all the heavy political artillery to make this as brutal a showdown as possible and open up the sliver of opportunity for impeachment. They need all the media and all the eyeballs to focus on television, on radio, on internet to give everyone a secondary shot to see why they believe Donald Trump is dangerous for the United States and should not be able to hold office. But they cannot approach this the way they approached the House. It’s not enough to just present witnesses, present testimonies, and the legal scripture to make their case. If they really want to present themselves as people that know they are right, it’s time to lay it all out on the floor. Make this ugly, make this messy, make this dramatic, come out with the boxing gloves.
Give them Hunter Biden.
Give them Joe Biden.
Give them Adam Schiff.
But of course, demand for Trump and Giuliani in return. Even if the Republicans refuse, you can goad them out by bringing all of Trump and the Republican’s biggest adversaries and publicly call him out whenever the opportunity is presented.
Can’t call the Democrats a coward if they have Biden taking the stand.
Rev up the chaos though.
Bring in Hillary Clinton. I mean it.
Bring in Hillary Clinton to serve as the Democrat’s main impeachment manager and prosecutor, as well as a supporter of Biden’s action during his vice president days. Convince Barack Obama to make a return appearance to help out. These two politicians have successful history and experience in the lawyer spectrum and can tag-team and bring out the vitriol from the other side. Imagine the sheer amount of attention if Clinton and Obama step back inside the White House to go up against the party that has trashed them for a decade plus. And if you want to really have some fun, toss in the also-experienced Kamala Harris (who is now fully available) to create the ultimate team of Dems to cross-examine and make their arguments, and guarantee that the Democrats are bringing out their best and aren’t hiding anything.
The Bidens didn’t do anything wrong (optics are bad, and it does also reveal how Joe Biden should NOT be president), but bring them out in the open so it doesn’t look like they have anything to hide. Joe Biden publicly bragged about his actions in fixing the Ukraine’s corruption, then it should not matter if he goes back up there again and proudly discusses it again. Hunter Biden is also a lawyer, so bring him out to the battle and back up his experience and abilities that helped him land the job in the first place. The Democrats literally have nothing to lose, they are already facing an uphill battle, and if Biden wants to fully clear the air about this faux-scandal and maybe even earn some political points by displaying his willpower and willingness to go up against the belly of the beast, this is the perfect moment to showcase.
The only person that could possibly lose badly here in terms of actual conviction and punishment is Donald Trump, and to a lesser extent the political party that doesn’t come off as the strong corner. But there are no prosecutions, and barring some unraveling, there’s nothing that can convict anybody on the Democratic side. If you are considered untrustworthy, if you are considered corrupt and secretive, why not take this shot and bring it out for the world to see?
I know NONE of this is going to happen, and I know that I’m not versed in politics anywhere near as much as these people involved. This is all just a wild dream for me, just a desire to have some sort of finality to finally close the book on the 2016 election and the 2019 phone call once and for all, before putting the focus back to the country and the upcoming election.
That being said, personally if I’m being called out and accused of hiding, accused of being corrupt, then I personally would do whatever it takes to clear my name and also raise the stakes to bring out the opponent’s skeletons in the closet. Joe Biden has an election to try to win, but if he really wants to land the early blows way before the primaries, he would head straight to the White House and prepare for this Senate showdown. Don’t hide, go for it, even if you know and believe that you’ve done nothing wrong.
The Democrats have a case, and there has been support throughout. But that was the appetizer along with the drink. The main course, the heavy meal, arrives in January 2020. If they don’t want to waste their time on a losing battle, they approach this with as much political intensity as we’ve ever seen from the Democratic Party since 2016 when the election was in overtime. This would also make for some killer television, regardless of how short the trial might be. The Dems have already made this the top news story for multiple months, finish the job strongly.
January 2020 will be the Democrat’s final opportunity to bring Trump down for his crimes and misdemeanors. But if they truly believe that they have a case, if they truly believe that their case is indisputable, then give the opponent what they want, and more. Oh, so much much more.
Bring the mo$&%(*&#)&%*(&(()# ruckus.
