A Delightful Expanded Version of an Intimate Piece of Japanese Culture

America’s extreme capitalist ways will make it impossible for authentic izakayas to exist. Rent is too high, the prices of the drinks and small bites would have to be astronomical, and on top of that you just won’t find many potential locales that could offer such intimate experiences. Izakayas tends to be solely counter-service and on the smaller, more cramped side, which works as a great way to meet new people. In the U.S. though, its just not economically feasible unless the business makes a lot of sacrifices.

Susuru is probably the closest to re-creating the experience, even if its way more spacious than your average izakaya. But don’t let that deter you, because this place is packed with flavor, variety, alcohol, creativity, and quality service from start to finish. Containing cocktails and flavors you won’t find in most places, Susuru is an excellent modernized translation of a Japanese staple. The place looks like 1950s Tokyo on the inside, and the menu and dining options ranges from small quick bites to smaller heartier meals. Complimenting this is the array of cocktails and sake, ranging from traditional to adventurous.

Some of the best fries in Florida, some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had, and their rice bowls are top-notch. Everything here is good, and I’m not exaggerating. Seven visits in, and not a single disappointing moment. This place does presentation and quality food better than most of the spots in the nearby Disney Springs---and with prices that are notably cheaper. Take a friend, take family that you can tolerate, take a boss you’re trying to impress---all the scenarios that usually exists in Japanese izakayas.

What this place doesn’t have in confined space and intimacy is compensated with excellent Japanese fusion food and vibes. Easily one of the best dining experiences in all of Florida.
